Frequently Asked Questions

What is the surgical suit used for? The PetRhb Suit is a recovery garment designed to protect wounds around the body and replaces the e-collar during the recovery period.

Because the suit covers the affected area, it stops dirt and bacteria from entering the wound. Moreover, it prevents your pet from excessively licking, biting or scratching the wound.

Why is it better than the cone collar?

Many pets find the so-called `cone of shame’ difficult. It restricts their mobility, obstructs peripheral vision and interferes with eating, drinking, sleeping and playing.
The surgical suit allows your pet to move naturally. It’s also more hygienic. The suit covers and protects your pet’s body, whereas the cone leaves the problem area open and unprotected.

Which is it made from?

The suit is made from 95% organic cotton, 5% lycra, with flexible cotton ribs providing a snug and calming `hug-like’ fit.
The cotton is hypoallergenic, so it reduces the chances of skin irritation or hot spots. It’s also naturally breathable. Incisions can heal more effectively when air is allowed to circulate freely.

What makes your suit different to others on the market?

The use of Swiss HeiQ Pure. It’s a dual-action antimicrobial, anti-odour agent which helps keep the fabric fresh and clean, lessening the chances of secondary infection.

How do I find the right size for my pet?

Each garment is designed to fit both cats and dogs. We’ve provided a size guide, although we’re unable to make recommendations based on breed or weight.
Here’s how to find the right size for each of our four garments:
Head & Ear Cover:
Measure the distance around your pet’s head [whereabouts on the head?], then match the measurement to our size guide. If the measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size.
Full body Suit; Front Leg Protection Sleeve; Hind Leg Protection Sleeve:
Measure your pet from the collar to the base of the tail. If the measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. [Is this right? You mention stretchy fabric in the original copy… ]

If the sleeves are too long, can I cut them to size?

Our products should not be cut. If the front or rear leg sleeves are too long, they can be folded over.

With the head and ear cover, is there any danger of it falling off?

It’s very unlikely, even for energetic pets. With flexible cotton ribs at the back, and elastic at the front, the head cover remains securely in place.

Are the garments suitable for long-haired breeds?

Yes. They are perfectly comfortable for long-haired cats and dogs. Before putting the suit on your pet, make sure their fur is not knotted.

Are the suits machine washable?

Yes, the suits should be washed every few days. They are machine washable at 60°C (up to 50 washes). Turn the suit inside out before washing. We recommend the use of a laundry bag.

They are NOT suitable for a tumble dryer. The suits should be air-dried. Bleach or other chemicals should NOT be used.
If ironing, make sure the temperature is cool, and avoid ironing directly over the printed areas.
Any length of fur can be used with our gowns. A little extra caution should be taken to ensure their fur is not in a knot to prevent any discomfort.

Will my pet be able to chew or tear the suit?

There’s always a possibility. However, the fabric is not particularly pleasant to lick, and most pets quickly lose interest in doing so. They accept the suits and aren’t bothered by them.
Angry pets may try and bite holes in the suit, but the fabric is robust and difficult to tear.

We recommend that you keep your pet under the supervision of a responsible adult while wearing the garment. If there are any issues — persistent licking or biting, for example — you should consult your veterinarian.

What happens when nature calls? Does the suit have to be removed?

For both male and female animals, the suit allows them to urinate and defecate without the need for removal or adjustment.
The male version has a urination hole which can be opened and closed. For female pets, the suits have an opening at the back.

Can my pet wear the suit all day?

Make sure you remove the garment regularly throughout the week. Check that it’s not overly tight or loose, or causing any discomfort. Monitor your pet for any sign of overheating and watch out for skin irritation.
While these problems are rare, it’s best to be cautious. If in doubt, always consult your veterinarian.

Can the suits replace bandages, dressings or casts?

No. None of our products can replace bandaging, dressings or casts.
The suits are designed to be worn in conjunction with them. They provide protection for bandages, dressings and casts and keep them securely in place. The front and rear leg sleeves can also protect an IV line.

If in doubt, always make sure to consult your veterinarian.

Should my pet wear a cone collar with the suit?

Usually, the cone collar will no longer be necessary. Our protective garments provide a comfortable, stress-free alternative. Most pets quickly get used to the suit and tolerate it well.
There are exceptions. For example, some pets exhibit high levels of anxiety, or a persistent habit of chewing at objects when they are alone in the house. Under these circumstances, as an additional precaution, we would recommend a cone collar while you are away from home.

Can I return the suit if it doesn’t fit, or my pet dislikes it?

Yes, we offer a 100% money back guarantee. Just send the item back. Once received, we’ll provide you with a full refund.
